Rep. Mike Levin Congratulates CA-49 Students Appointed To Nation’s Service Academies

San Juan Capistrano, CA – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) released the following statement congratulating 10 students from California’s 49th congressional district who received official appointments from the United States Air Force, Naval, Military, and Merchant Marine Academies.

“Receiving an offer of appointment to one on of these elite educational institutions is no easy feat, and I am honored to extend my upmost congratulations to 10 spectacular students from California’s 49th district. America’s Armed Forces are made up of the bravest and brightest young men and women who answer the call of service to defend our great nation. Each of these student’s hard work and dedication shone brightly through their resumes and applications, and I am both proud and confident to nominate these future leaders of America.”

The following students, nominated by Representative Levin, have been selected by each respective academy as part of their 2024 class:

U.S. Air Force Academy

  • Nicole Dixson - La Costa Canyon High School, Carlsbad, CA (SD UT)
  • Jacob Miller - Rancho Bernardo High School, San Diego, CA  (SD UT) 
  • Jonathan Boranian - St. Margarets Episcopal School, San Juan Capistrano, CA (OC)
  • Aidan Auci - Rancho Santa Margarita High School, CA (OC) 

U.S. Naval Academy

  • Jezneel Yusi - El Camino High School, Oceanside, CA (SD UT) 
  • Maxwell Wilson - Cathedral Catholic High School, San Diego, CA (SD UT) 
  • Hayden Kahn - San Clemente High School, San Clemente, CA (OC) 

U.S. Military Academy at West Point

  • Lucas Pattinson - San Juan Hills High School, San Juan Capistrano, CA (OC) 
  • Mackenzie Karnig - Carlsbad High School, Carlsbad, CA (SD UT) 
  • Maxwell Wilson - Cathedral Catholic High School, SD, CA (SD UT) 

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

  • Jacob Birst - Vista High School, Vista, CA (OC) 

Each year, Representative Levin may nominate up to ten individuals for each vacant academy slot allotted to our district to attend our nation’s four service academies: The U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, does not require a Congressional nomination. All five academies offer young men and women a free college education at a highly-ranked, nationally-recognized academic institution, while preparing them for an officer's commission in the armed forces.
