Rep. Mike Levin’s Statement on Vote in Support of National Security Package

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) released the following statement regarding his vote in support of the House’s national security package to provide assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Indo-Pacific allies and humanitarian aid to Gaza.

“I voted in favor of the national security package to deter and combat authoritarian regimes around the world because global democracy and stability are on the line. As Russia, Iran, and China continue to threaten the sovereignty of our allies and partners, it’s critical that we defend against this aggression. Let it be known, our commitment to our allies will not waver and we must do everything in our power to stand up to threats against peace and democracy.

“While I’m glad that the House passed a national security package, it took far too long to do so due to Republicans’ ongoing chaos and dysfunction. Thanks to the work of House Democrats, we were able to pass this package despite opposition from extremist Members of the House Republican Conference.

“I’m also glad that $9 billion in humanitarian aid for Gaza and other vulnerable populations is included in the package. We must continue to expand avenues for delivering aid to Palestinian civilians impacted by the war.

“I strongly urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass this package swiftly and send it to President Biden’s desk so we can immediately provide our allies with the aid they desperately need.”
