Rep. Mike Levin’s Statement on Voting to Keep the Government Open

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) released the following statement after voting for a short-term funding bill to keep the government open and avoid a shutdown and disruption to services.

“I voted in favor of the short-term government funding bill because it is critical to keep our government open and avoid any disruptions to services and benefits that millions of Americans rely upon. The alternative is a government shutdown that would be disastrous for communities, particularly our service members and their families, who would not receive their pay during a shutdown. We cannot allow that to happen.

“This short-term extension does not include any policy riders proposed by extremist MAGA Republicans and avoids any controversial measures that could harm hardworking American families. It simply extends our current government funding levels to March 8 and March 22, 2024.

“Make no mistake: this just kicks the can down the road. Now, we must find a bipartisan path forward to pass a full-year government funding package that avoids a shutdown and delivers results for our district and the rest of the country.”
