Representative Mike Levin and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Lead Community Discussion on Campaign Finance and Ethics Reform
Oceanside, CA - Today, U.S. Representative Mike Levin and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi led a community discussion on campaign finance and ethics reform as part of Speaker Pelosi’s ‘Speaker in the House’ series. Rep. Levin and Speaker Pelosi highlighted the For The People Act (H.R. 1), legislation passed this year to ensure clean and fair elections, end the dominance of big money in our politics, and help guarantee public officials work for the public interest.
“It is a pleasure to join Congressman Mike Levin for this important conversation about protecting the sacred right to vote and ensuring our government works For The People,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi. “Since Day One, our Democratic House has been strengthened by Congressman Levin’s bold leadership and dedication to upholding the bedrock of our democracy – free and fair elections. As one of our first acts, our Democratic House Majority proudly passed H.R. 1, the For The People Act, to ensure equal access to the ballot, modernize voter registration and fight voter suppression, and passed further legislation to guard against foreign election interference. With Congressman Levin at the helm, Democrats will continue to call on Senator McConnell to pass these vital bills and ensure America’s elections are decided by Americans.”
"People I talk to across North County San Diego and South Orange County are tired of Washington politicians who put corporate special interests first," said Rep. Levin. "That's why one of the first bills I supported in Congress was the For The People Act, so we can finally end the culture of corruption in Washington. House Democrats passed this historic legislation, and now it's up to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to do what's right for our democracy. I'm grateful to Speaker Pelosi for leading the fight on this issue and joining me to discuss this critical legislation."
The For The People Act ensures clean and fair elections by making it easier to vote, ending partisan gerrymandering, and enhancing federal efforts to secure voting systems. The bill also improves online ad disclosure, strengthens rules on super PACs, expands conflict of interest laws, and more. For H.R. 1 bill text, see here.
